Class Description:
Terry Mangan returns to the Charles E. Burchfield Nature & Art Center for a four-week watercolor workshop this spring. Ms. Mangan is a WNY artist who regularly shows her acrylics, oils, watercolors and pastels in art shows and exhibits in the area.
Beginner Watercolor: We will study W/C paper, paints, and brushes. Working from a landscape picture, you will apply this softer method and learn paper weight, brushes and control of paint.
Basic Supply List (Watercolor):
Trays – Paints – box of 8 – 10 colors.
Brushes – 3 – 4 mixed sizes medium priced
Pencil and white eraser – to sketch
Pad of Watercolor paper
Paper Towels
Container to hold water.
For learning the basics you will not need to buy expensive paints. Solid watercolors in a tray will work fine. Do buy good brushes though! You needn't buy the most expensive ones right now but don't waste your money on the cheapest ones either. You can use a watercolor paper pad of acid-free paper or a regular pad of sketching paper for this class. However, a good quality watercolor paper will help you better understand how the painting techniques work. Note-taking can be very helpful. Your notes will provide you backup information when you are painting on your own.
